Welcome to the Madison Board Gamers! The Madison Board Gamers meet on Wednesday nights at the Memorial Union of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Check the "Today in the Union" schedule for the exact room (on many bulletin boards within the Union). The room is open from 5pm until the Union closes, though we usually plan to start the main games at 6 (and play short games before then). After 6 games start whenever players are available. We also have a regular Saturday session for those who can't make it on Wednesdays, and to play games that take a little longer than we can on Wednesday nights. We play on the first Saturday of the month, from noon-close at the Memorial Union. In the fall, we typically try to avoid meeting the same day as a home football game, so we may not meet exactly on the first Saturday of each month. We focus on fun, playable board games with fairly simple rules (so we can introduce the rules and start playing within 15 minutes or so) but not necessarily simple strategies. New players are welcome, as we play a variety of games and expect to teach and learn the rules before we play. These games have been called German games (since many of them are originally published in Germany, where the boardgame market is larger than in the U.S.), family strategy games (as they often contain more room for thought and planning than traditional family games like Monopoly and Risk), designer games (since popular designers are often featured on the box cover), or These Games of Ours (since we couldn't come up with a broad enough category that fit everything).
