Madison Board Gamers Session Report,
October 2, 2002
written by Everett E. Proctor
Games Played:
We the People, RA, LOTR: The Confrontation
Players:
Todd, Joel, Everett, and Tim
Bad weather and prior commitments made for a poor turnout tonight, with
only 4 people showing up to play games. Sara, Dale, and Bill stopped by,
but none of them could stick around for a game.
We the People:
Everett and Joel
This is a game that we had pre-arranged to play as it is one of the
Internet Top 100 Games that I hadn't played yet, and John was good
enough to lend it to me. The game play is very similar to Hannibal.
Joel likes Hannibal a little better; I'm not sure. The game is mostly
about political control of the 13 colonies, with battles usually only
happening in colonies that could go either way. I played the Americans,
and was hampered because the card "French Allies" never showed up.
Nevertheless, I was able to force a tie by taking over a colony and playing
a card to make the war end during that year.
Scores: Joel 7 colonies, Everett 6 colonies (tie)
Ratings: Joel 7, Everett 6
LOTR: The Confrontation:
Todd and Tim, and Joel and Everett
Todd and Tim played this while Joel and I were playing We the People. I
don't have any notes or results about their game. Joel and I also played
this once.
Scores: Everett 3, Joel 3
Ratings: Everett 8, Joel 6
Ra:
Todd, Everett, and Joel
Todd, Joel, and myself played this after we were done with We the People.
I must admit, when I played this game when it first game out, I didn't like
it much. But with the aid of the player aid sheets that people have made,
I now understand what I'm bidding on, and have gained a growing appreciation
of this game. I would not recommend playing it without those sheets, especially
for new players, but with them it is a challenging auction game.
Scores: Everett 48, Todd 45, Joel 26
Ratings: Todd 8, Everett 7, Joel 6
